The 2017 Legislative session has not been fast out of the gates. We are in the first year of a two-year session, so we start out with no bills on the calendar, and they can’t get there until we have sub-committee meetings and committee meetings to get them to the floor. On top of that, there have been a lot of changes in Columbia the last few weeks. As you probably know, we have a new Governor, a new Lieutenant Governor, new staff, and new committee chairmen with new staffs.   This is also the first year of a shortened session which means we have less time to get it all done.

My committees for the next four years are: Judiciary, Banking and Insurance, Education, General, and Corrections and Penology. I am currently serving as chairman on three different sub-committees. I bet in a couple of weeks I will be wishing it was slow again.

Despite all of the changes, we have been able to get a couple of our caucus priorities moving. Click here for a summary of what we accomplished last week and what lies ahead this week.   If you ever have any questions or need anything, please call my office in Columbia at (803) 212-6148. My assistant is Ja’vell Bynoe and she will be happy to assist you if I am not available.
